The Consideration of Urinary specific gravity and Osmolality



Abstract
Specific gravity of the urine and the measurement of osmolality have been utilized for renal function tests.
Specific gravity of urine is influenced by molecular weight and its character, but osmotic pressure is not influenced by those.
So that, we think the measurement of osmotic pressure is more reliable test than specific gravity in renal concentration test.
So, we recommend the measurement of osmotic pressure instead of specific gravity in clinical laboratory.
The comparative results of specific gravity and osmolality showed as Table 2 and Fig. 1 and 2.
